The Sequin Blazer

To continue my mini-series of “Holiday Party Outfits” this is the second outfit of this series. My office’s holiday party was actually held during work hours and we were required to work that day from opening to noon, so I had to keep my outfit office appropriate. I wanted to wear something work and party appropriate so what better piece than a sequin blazer?

Outfit Details

I knew that I wanted to wear my sequin blazer but I also knew I did not want to wear denim with this blazer since I did not want this to look too casual. I decided to wear my J.Crew Mini Wool Pants, a black sheer top and St. John loafers to keep it comfy.  I did switch shirts once I realized that the top was too sheer and inappropriate for work. Instead, I wore a black ribbed tank top that made the outfit look more work appropriate. I must admit I felt like Bruno Mars in this outfit because I felt like “24K Magic in the air…” (insert music notes). I had a lot of fun shooting this outfit as you can tell in the photos below.  On a side note, this has to be the cheapest outfit featured on the blog so far!

Blazer: Sam Eldelman, purchased at a thrift store: $5.00 / Sheer top featured: No brand: $1.00 / Pants: J. Crew Mini Wool Pants, purchased at Goodwill: $5.00 / Shoes: St. John Loafers, purchased at Goodwill: $2.00 / Bag: Vintage No brand, purchased at Goodwill: $2.00 / Outfit total: $15.00

Chunky Turtle Neck + Boyfriend Jeans

My husband and I celebrated our 12 years together & 2 years wedding anniversary. I know, it’s a mouthful. He surprised me with a trip to New Orleans, one of my favorite cities! We were there for 3 nights and I enjoyed every single bit of it. I was only able to capture one outfit because I got caught up with everything else.

Outfit Details

I knew it was going to be cold, so I packed thick sweaters that were warm but not too bulky. When traveling you’re only allowed so much weight in your luggage that you want to make sure you don’t overpack. I decided to wear my MaxMara coat on my way to New Orleans, in order to eliminate the overpacking issue. I also packed for comfort because I knew I was going to be doing lots of walking. I wanted to wear sneakers, so I based this outfit with my shoes first. I wore this chunky turtle neck sweater with a pair of white boyfriend jeans, my nike flynit zoom trainers and my black MaxMara coat.

Turtle neck: H&M, purchased at Goodwill: $4.00 / Jeans: Gap Boyfriend Jeans, purchased at Goodwill: $5.00 / Coat: MaxMara, purchased at Goodwill: $8.00 / Shoes: Nike Flyknit Zoom $40.00 (clearance) / Outfit total: $57.00

Sweater Dress + OTK

Outfit Details

I must admit this look was inspired by Chrissy Teigen’s sweater dress from a couple of days ago. I had been meaning to wear an oversized sweater and a pair of OTKs but I have been lazy. I finally found the inspiration when I came across this sweater at Goodwill. I must admit, the Goodwill back home is way more expensive than the Goodwills here in Charlotte. I was a little apprehensive about buying this sweater because of the price but in the end I bought it because I loved the color and the warmth of it so much. I kept this look super simple by adding a pair of sunnies and a bold lip.

Sweater: Vintage, purchased at Goodwill: $8.00 / OTK: Steve Madden ( these are about 5 years old) Outfit total: $8.00

Oversized Wool Coat & Chunky Knit Sweater

On of the things on my to-do list for my Thanksgiving trip back home, was to hit up some thrift stores. Since time went by so quickly, I ended up going to just one store but that trip was definitely worth it. When you think of Miami the last thing that comes to mind is coats or winter coats for that matter. However, I have found my best winter coats in Miami and that has a lot to do with people from the North moving down south and realizing they really don’t need coats. That is why one of the first things I did when I walked into the store was head over to the coats section. While several of the coats were either too large or too damaged, I found THE ICONIC MaxMara wool coat just hanging there waiting for me! You can just imagine the excitement on my face when I realized that I found a $3K+ coat for only $8.00, score! The coat is in near perfect condition, all it needed was a fresh dry clean and it was ready to go. I will say though that sadly, the belt was missing but that can easily be fixed.

This coat evokes comfort, so I decided to wear it for the first time with a chunky knit sweater, that was also purchased at Goodwill. The coat has the prefect amount of room  for layering or for wearing those really big chunky sweaters. It is extremely warm and I can see myself wearing it for those really cold winter days. Since this was a casual look, I wore a pair of light blue jeans, a pair of black booties and one of my favorite Gap purchases, this beautiful lambskin hobo bag. To complete this look, I accessorized with my favorite accessory of them all, my dog, Sir Teddy.

Coat: MaxMara, purchased at Goodwill: $8.00 / Jeans: Gap, $7.99 / Shoes: Gap, $50.00 / Handbag: Gap, $100.00 / Dog: priceless 🙂 / Outfit total: $166.00

Faux-Fur Coat & Burgundy Velvet Dress = Holiday Party #outfitinspo

It is only fitting that since we are officially in the Holiday season ( although I think the holiday season officially kicked off Black Friday) I thought it would be great to show you different holiday party outfits. The holiday season is great but when you have several engagements to attend we can sometimes get the “outfit burnout” because we run out of ideas and end up having several of the “I don’t have anything to wear” moments. Here’s to hoping that with this “mini series” I am able to give you #outfitinspo for the several parties you might be attending this season, you social butterfly!

Outfit Details

As you might already know, faux-fur coats are all the rage this season and for good reason. They are stylish, comfortable but most importantly warm. I happen to have had this for about 2 1/2 year-ish sitting in my closet and I know have every excuse to wear it, lol. There is something to be said about wearing faux-fur, it can instantly make you feel like a million bucks, lol! I rocked a burgundy or like some people say, “oxblood” velvet dress and my embellished gold heels. I accessorized with a pair of tassel earnings and a burgundy clutch to match. The outfit is perfect for your work holiday party, if it’s at an upscale venue, a cocktail hour happy hour or even your own holiday party outfit. Stay tuned for the next Holiday Party Outfit, the mini series.

Dress: Monique, Vintage Dress (gifted) / Coat: Alfani Faux-Fur Coat, purchased at Goodwill: $25.00 / Shoes: Steve Madden / Purse: No brand: $5.00 / Outfit total: $30.00

Faux-Fur Bomber Jacket

Now that most leaves have fallen on the ground, it truly looks like fall. I didn’t realize how much fun it was to play with leaves until we ( my husband and I ) discovered that our dog, Sir Teddy, likes to walk through leave piles. Sir Teddy enjoys walking through a freshly raked pile of leaves. My guess is that he must like the leaves brushing his fur but there is no way of confirming this.

Outfit Details

There are few stores that I like to go to on Black Friday and the Gap is one them. I should mention that the Gap was my first job and therefore, I have a biased love affair. As far as I can remember their discount for Black Friday is 50% off. I can no longer benefit from their employee discount, so this is the one time of year I splurge there. I went for the purpose of stocking up on sweaters but once I got there, I was torn between the faux-fur bomber jacket and the oversized faux-fur jacket. In the end, I chose the faux-fur bomber jacket because, I NEEDED a winter bomber jacket (not really but lol). The jacket is super warm and the faux-fur trim is so soft and plush, this will definitely be a fall staple.  I went for a super casual look with this outfit, so I wore a pair of blue jeans, coincidentally enough from the Gap, a tiered ruffle sleeve sweater and my Vince Camuto booties. I completed my look with a blush lipstick and a pair of aviators because you have to wear aviators with a bomber jacket, duh, lol. I’m thinking the next outfit I pair this jacket with, will be a bit more classy, stay tuned.

Jacket: The Gap, faux-fur bomber jacket, (half-off sale): $64.00 / Jeans: The Gap, clearance sale: $7.99; Top: Mood and Madison Layered tiered ruffle sweater, $12.00 / Shoes: Vince Camuto. Outfit total: $85.00

Cable Knit Turtleneck Sweater

Outfit Details

This is my normal cold Saturday errands look. I try to keep it comfortable and as casual as possible since I never know what I might end of doing that day. If I happen to go shopping that day, i.e., Goodwill then I will most likely change into something more comfortable and easy to take off. Since it was a cold morning, I opted for a turtleneck, jeans, a wool coat and of course, a pair of black booties. The backpack that I am wearing was actually gifted to me from my mom and she bought this at Goodwill many many many years ago. This is my go-to weekend shopping bag and honestly the PERFECT holiday shopping bag. It holds the right amount of things without causing you to overpack and its probably the safest thing to wear because you won’t accidentally leave it behind somewhere ( from getting tired of holding it for too long) and it’s probably really hard for someone to snatch.

Jeans: Gap, Clearance Sale: $7.99 / Turtleneck: Jean Pierre, Purchased at Goodwill: $4.00 / Boots: Cole Haan, purchased at Goodwill: $5.00 / Backpack: Hobo International, purchased at Goodwill: $5.00 / Coat: American Apparel, purchased at Goodwill: $5.00 / Outfit Total: $27.00
