Fall + The Suede Midi Skirt

Being from the South, or as I like to call it, the “Dirty South,” you never get to experience any other season but Summer. I love summer and anyone that knows me, knows how much I love it. In my 29 years of living, I had never really experience any other season but summer; however, with the exception of that one time that I spent two weeks in Indian in the winter time ( I hated it). So when we arrived in Charlotte and it was still cold in April, we were in shock. Fast forward through our first Fall here, I’ve learned that Fall is just a menopausal spring/summer mixed into one. How do you dress for 40 degrees in the morning but 75 degrees in the afternoon? How do you handle frost on your car in the morning and a scorching steering wheel in the afternoon? I need answers. I will say this, I have come to appreciate fall. I appreciate the leaves changing colors and all the colors that they turn;burgundy, mustard, dark green, orange and the deep hues of red. I’ve come to appreciate pumpkin patch picking, cooler evenings, layers, booties and coats.

With that said, some of my favorite things to wear during this time of year is suede. I also love a good midi skirt and when I came across this skirt, I knew I had to have it. Since I am only 5’4, I have to play around midi skirts but the trick is that you have tuck your shirt in and keep it very minimal on top in order to avoid looking “bulky” or unproportioned. Another trick, try wearing non-ankle strap heels. Ankle straps can make a small/short frame like mine appear even shorter if you don’t pair it with the right pieces.

Skirt, Vintage Talbots,  thrifted at Value Village, $4.00. Top, Max Jeans, purchased at Marshalls, $20.00. Shoes, Steve Madden, purchased at Dillards, Sale $35.00. Bag, Furla, purchased on Poshmark, $60.00. Outfit total: $119.00.

Thigh-high lace up boots

I took these bad boys out for a spin and they are hot. All EYES will definitely  be on you with these boots. However, I caution you that the weather MUST be agreeable because I was sweating in these. I wanted to wear these boots with a dress so I knew immediately this was the dress to wear. I kept everything else very minimal because the dress and boots together are enough of a wow factor.

PLAID SHIRT & WIDE POCKET DRESS

This is one of those “retro-fit” outfits that look simply cool. Although, it might look like one entire outfit this is actually two separate pieces. This is actually a dress and a shirt and I purchased both pieces at Goodwill. I wore this earlier this spring/summer and I had not worn it since because I didn’t know what else to wear it with. Once I found this shirt at Goodwill, I kew that I wanted to pair it with this dress. I really wanted to bring out the red in this top so I matched with red shoes and purse. This outfit is very fall forward and cool.

LACE BUSTIER + TROUSERS + PASTEL BLAZER = MONOCHROMATIC

Today’s outfit has a little bit or rebel and a little bit of chic. To be honest, there is something about this outfit that reminds me of Rihanna. I think it might be the blazer, or the sunglasses but there is something about this outfit that makes want to scream badgal Riri. The blazer inspired this outfit down to the shoes. The blazer was a thrift store find and I knew I had the perfect pants to wear this blazer with. Once I had set my heart on the outfit, finding the piece to match it with was a piece of cake. The bustier was a present from sister and I had not gotten around to wearing it. Once I paired them together it was a match made in heaven. The shoes were another thrift store find.

Baroque Midi Skirt

There was a time when girls my height ( 5’4 & under) were afraid to were midi skirts. The obvious reason to this is that, it eats up at our height. However, I am so glad that more and more petit girls are waving goodbye to fashion no-no’s and trying out fashion trends “prohibited” to smaller girls. The key to midi skirts ( you’ve probably read this before) is to wear them high. I bought this skirt at Romwe back in early spring and had been dying to wear it. I paired it with a blush top, gold embellished heels & a gold clutch. I love that the fabric material of the skirt is very thick making it ideal for spring & fall.

Till next time !

PLEATED MAXI DRESS

I probably bought this dress two years ago and never wore it. This dress looks homemade because it has no signs of ever having tags. The dress is definitely vintage because it has a familiarity of being around during the seventies or maybe it was someone’s “experiment gone wrong”?  Who knows but I love it. I think it’s a beautiful dress very well made. I paired the dress with these gorgeous heels purchased at Goodwill as well BUT these are Sigerson Morrison for Target. I’m amazed the good condition I was able to score these for, $6.00. I paired the dress with a white clutch with gold detailing.

LACE SKATER DRESS

When I purchase clothes, I make it my goal to wear it more than once. I bought this red dress back in February for valentines day but I have not worn it since. It’s a beautiful dress but its just not the piece I can wear to say, the grocery store, shopping or the movies. The dress is very “romantic” so I wanted to give it edgyness by wearing it with black accessories. The lace-up heels add the perfect amount of “attitude” that I wanted to give this dress. I side swept my hair to finish up the look.

SPARKLES + EMBELLISHED TOP

This is one of those “love at first sight” moments. I found this top at the thrift store last fall and I am now coming around to posting about it. The beading, the structure and the detailing of the top is reminiscent to Balmain (to me anyway). This is definitely one of those show stopping and outfit popping pieces. The “skirt” or bottom piece that paired this top with is actually a dress with a chiffon top piece. Since the top of the dress is “layer-able” I decided to wear the top with the dress. Next time though, I think I am going to rock this top with jeans and a bra underneath.

This entire outfit was purchased at a thrift store, so needless to say, this is one of those Cheap + Chic closet moments of mine.

STRAIGHT OUTTA MIAMI

Hanging around the city this weekend, I came across this: Straight Outta Miami. Of course, I had too. This is a simple relaxed fall look ( or any season really). I bought this skirt at my local Goodwill and it was totally worth it.

SCALLOPED SKIRT

There is something about this outfit that reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw. I think it might be the coat or perhaps its because I have been watching reruns of Sex And The City. I bought this pretty little skirt at Ann Taylor back in spring and I never got around to it. It’s  a pretty little skirt with the cutest little scallops on the bottom. It reminds me of the Christian Dior 2016 Ready-to-wear collection (here) white scalloped shorts. Of course, my version is much more affordable. Since the skirt fits me right on my waist, I decided to pair with a crop top and this cute spring coat. The shoes were my little pop of (preppy) color.

  • Coat: $5.00
  • Clutch: $2.50
