The Midi Skirt

For a very quick moment, we experienced late spring weather here in Charlotte last week. I’m saying quick because the temperatures are forecasted to drop and apparently there’s going to be rain and snow this weekend.  So there’s that (here goes to another weekend hibernating 😦) . Unfortunately, I didn’t realize how quick this weather was going to last because it started raining and we were unable to capture more than 4 good photos for this post.

Outfit Details

For this very brief moment of spring like weather,  I was actually able to wear this beautiful H&M skirt I thrifted the other day. There’s something about earth tone colors that is truly beautiful. I wanted this to be a nice winter/spring transition look (although I’m a few months early) and what better way than to pair a mustard midi skirt with a snake print top. Since the weather was that unforgiving I wore open toe shoes and I opted for these beautiful black and white mules, I thrifted BNWT! This entire outfit was thrifted ! Talk about Happy New Year. The purse was not thrifted but rather gifted to me for my 16th birthday from my mom.

Double Breasted Vest Dress

Try saying that title 5 times fast! Every now and then, I’ll find something at the thrift store that will make me jump from excitement. This is one of those pieces that I feel like I’m not worthy of, LOL. This is a beautiful Emanuel Ungaro masterpiece that I happened to have stumbled across in the “dark section” of the thrift store. This is the section that most people skip because the things that are there are deemed too “unfashionable” or outdated and it’s not worth the hassle. Well, I am the girl that goes to the thrift store and spends 5 hours going through every section hoping to find that masterpiece. *Full disclosure*, I don’t recommend anyone spending that much time at any store, I just have a problem. LOL!

Blazers, blazer dresses and vest dresses are having a huge moment right now. I think we can thank Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex for this as she has worn blazers dresses more than once now. It is definitely having an “IT” moment.

Outfit Details

Originally I was going to wear this vest dress with a bodysuit but I did not like how the one that I have looked. I still want to wear it with a bodysuit, so look out for that post as soon as I find one. Thankfully, it was one of those warm fall days so I was able to get away without something underneath. I really wanted to keep this outfit minimalistic so I styled it with a pair of silver H&M heels and a black Brooks Brothers bag. I finished out with my sleek “chocolate swirl” ponytails, my go-to sunglass and a pair of navy/silver/black drop earrings.

This entire outfit was purchased at the thrift store.

LACE SKATER DRESS

When I purchase clothes, I make it my goal to wear it more than once. I bought this red dress back in February for valentines day but I have not worn it since. It’s a beautiful dress but its just not the piece I can wear to say, the grocery store, shopping or the movies. The dress is very “romantic” so I wanted to give it edgyness by wearing it with black accessories. The lace-up heels add the perfect amount of “attitude” that I wanted to give this dress. I side swept my hair to finish up the look.

A little late celebration

This is actually a late post, as I wore this outfit to happy hour with friends to celebrate my graduation. I wanted something comfortable, chic and fabulous and this was it. Although, I have to admit the skirt kept riding up and moving all over the place ( perhaps it needs to be taken in). Anyway, I had a wonderful time with friends and I was finally able to celebrate my graduation.

Beach Day!

One of the things that I love about my childhood is that I have so many fond memories of the beach. As a child, my mother would celebrate our birthdays or even Christmas (yes, Christmas) at the beach. Which would explain why I love the beach so much. There is nothing in this world that could compare to the sound of the ocean waves, the smell of the ocean breeze and the feeling of warm sand on your toes. There are a lot of times I drive to the beach just to look for solitude, quietness or just for a nice place of serenity.

This weekend was the perfect weekend for the beach since there weather was so nice. I went to the beach on Saturday, knowing that on Monday, it was a complete no-no. Since it is Memorial Weekend, there are soooo many people in Miami that are out-of-town, that we choose to drive a bit of north to get away from the chaos. By up north, I mean a mere 30 minutes away from my house ( I live 15 minutes away from the beach, lol). This is one of the advantages of living in Florida, our shoreline is practically endless 🙂 . I choose to wear a maxi skirt and a two-piece suit. I must say, that this is my third time wearing a two-piece suit. As a child, I was always very shy about wearing two-piece bathing suits, that I normally wore one pieces or simply jumped in the ocean with my rugrat shorts ( oh the childhood days) and white t. So, wearing a two-piece is actually earth shattering news in my family, he he. Anyways, I must say, I am glad that there weren’t many humans around to see me!

Outfit Details:

I don’t like wearing much to the beach. I think a full on outfit defeats the purpose of going to the beach anyway, so I stick to the very essentials. I wear my bathing suit and a cover-up. I choose this maxi skirt from Mink Pink as my cover-up since it looks very beach-y to me and lets face it, this is that one piece you can wear to the beach or an other summer day. I mixed and matched my bathing suit since I don’t have many. I bought the bottom at H&M a few months ago ( I did buy the matching top, BUT the story behind this suit is too long to cover) and the top I purchased at Old Navy last summer. I liked the thought of mixing both pieces up as they were both florals essentially but different types of flowers, the top is more tropical and the bottom is more spring. I don’t wear make-up to the beach and I don’t understand why would you. I did wear flip-flops but wearing shoes on the sand can get a bit tricky.

Hope you all had an amazing weekend.

Karla.

Belle Journée

This really was a lovely day. This is a bit of a late post, my boyfriend decided to take me on a dinner date on the weekday which is something that we rarely do since he is always working. I knew I wanted to wear this skirt and I was debating between a denim shirt or this shirt but at the end I decided on this one. “Trés Luxueux” translates to very luxurious and I wanted to keep this outfit, luxurious yet romantic. To keep things sweet I wore these bedazzled gold heels and I added the clutch since I was already going with the French theme.

A Little Bit Of Print

Leopard print by far is my favorite print. I love the sexiness, edginess and daringness that the print embodies when you walk into a room. That is why, when I saw this shirt on sale at H&M, I knew I had to have it because it is such a simple shirt that can make any outfit pop. The other reason why I purchased it? It was only $7.00 ! I kept things pretty simple and neutral with this outfit. I wore a pair of black pants, a black coat, a gold purse and white heels for that pop of color. I love how these shoes have that gold chain on the shoe. It gives that simple white heel that extra oomph.

Valentines Day – a bit late

Valentine’s Day happens to be one of my favorite “holidays”; and I say “holiday” because we all know that it has become be to known as a corporate holiday. I knew that this year I wanted to wear a red dress so I searched the internet for the perfect red dress. I like the dresses that H&M had to offer so I went to the store and tried on every single red dress they had in store. After I spent about 40 minutes in the fitting room I had narrowed it down to this red ( the one shown) dress or this one. I loved how red flared dress looked on the rack but when I put it on….OH NO! The dress looked horrible and let’s just say the sizing was WAAAAYYYY off.

The Details

Once I selected my dress I knew that I wanted to wear pink accessories. I bought these amazing pink shoes from Poshmark ( an app that lets you sell your clothes!) and I matched it with this gorgeous clutch I bought at goodwill for $2.50. I was really going for the sweet romantic look and I think I nailed it. The weather that night was unseasonable cold so I was able to show off my wonderful beige ( $1.00) coat.

The $1.00 dollar Wool Coat

So, I basically live in thrift stores. At my local thrift store, everyone and I mean everyone in the store knows me as the frequent buyer. I drive around this city looking for the best thrift stores and I do not shy away from the most “suspect” looking shops. I love bargain shopping and I am not afraid to dig in. Back in November, our local church hosted a “Carnival” ( more like a fair) and every year they have a used clothing store. The prices range from $1.00 – $5.00, depending on the item that you are purchasing. Of course, this is the first place I checkout before I even stuff myself with elephant ears, cotton candy and the local cuisine. When I stepped in I saw the usual, shoes, shirts, dresses etc… I noticed that they had a sign that read ” Wall items $1.00″ racks “$2.00”. I dove right into the “wall section” where of course everything was one dollar. As I looked through the racks of clothing hanging on the wall, I noticed this camel wool coat hanging. I immediately pulled it out ( my heart might have stopped beating for a few seconds) and tried it on. It fit exactly how I had wanted it! I checked it for stains, smells, defects and knew right away it was MINE. As I went to check out, I still could not believe that one of falls “it” item was going to be in my closet, for a whopping $1.00! As you can see, yes, thrift store shoppings does pay off.

HAPPY NEW YEAR – #ootd

SONY DSC

Happy New Year!

I hope you all received the New Year with lots of happiness, joy and delight! I would also like to wish you all lots of health, wealth, travel, excitement, joy and happiness this new year. This year I opted out of sparkles and instead carried on my black and gold obsession to my New Years Eve outfit.

The outfit

I wore this chic romper/bodysuit to with lots of gold detailing.I bought the bodysuit during black Friday at H&M for $10! Best investment last year 😉 . I decided that I wanted to keep my outfit non-sparkly since I knew everyone usually wears lots of glitter on this day. I kept it punk-rock cool with my shades during the day and a hot red lip stick. My only complaint about this suit is that it is extremely looooong – so for someone who stands at my height ( 5’4″ ), you will need to have this tailored or wear really high-high shoes. I wore a pair of 6″ Steve Madden heels but that didn’t make the cut. I am going to have this taking in at the hem because sadly these are way to long for me.

I hope you all had lots of fun welcoming in the year.

P.S. I definitely need to upgrade my camera this year – one of my new years resolution.

Happy Fashion.
